ThyssenKrupp Picket August 5, 2011

The CAW is currently engaged in a court battle with ThyssenKrupp Canada to save the post-retirement benefits of 1,500 retirees from the former Budd Canada plant in Kitchener.

ThyssenKrupp Budd (formerly Budd Canada) is attempting to shirk its responsibility to our retirees by dissolving their post-retirement benefits through the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, despite the fact the parent company is worth many billions of dollars.

ThyssenKrupp is a German-based multinational corporation employing 177,000 people in 80 different countries. In the 2009/2010 fiscal year alone, the company generated sales of more than €42 billion ($63 billion CAD).

Among the retirees who could lose their benefits, some are in long term care homes and others are recent organ transplant recipients on life-saving anti-rejection drugs.
